Amalapuram: The credit for giving Rs 1,000 crore to the Konaseema Railway Project goes to the present BJP government at the Centre, says BJP training classes’ convener Vetukuri Suryanarayana Raju.

Addressing media at the Cotton Guest House here on Monday, he said the BJP-led Vajpayee government launched the Konaseema railway line project, but the subsequent NDA government ignored it. However, the present BJP regime at the Centre allotted funds on the project liberally.

The BJP was committed to the development of AP, he said and maintained that it would fulfill the promises made to AP in connection with the bifurcation.

Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu declared in January last that the state is receiving funds equal to that of special status, but he changed his tack now, he said and added the Centre had allocated Rs 3.55 lakh crore including Rs 1 lakh crore for road development to AP.

Several Andhra rulers of the undivided state of AP invested heavily in development of Hyderabad at the cost of other regions, which led to the backwardness of the other regions, he pointed out.  BJP district general secretary Nalla Pawan, party leaders Battula Lakshmi, Balaswami and Janga Rajendra Kumar and others took part in the programme.
