Eluru: A four-year-old boy was charred to death and four thatched houses were gutted in the fire accident at Narasannapalem village in Koyyalagudem mandal on Tuesday.

According to villagers, about 15 families from Bayyaram village in Guntur district migrated to Narasannapalem to eke out their livelihood. They were staying in thatched sheds in the fields of a tobacco farmer and working as daily wage labourers in the tobacco fields.

On Tuesday,  Pendem Balanagu and his wife Krishnaveni while going to work left the two sons in the thatched house. Four-year-old Nagendra Babu was fast asleep in a swing and the other son was playing in the house. Suddenly, a fire broke out in the house when dangled high tension live wires fell on the makeshift hut.

The fire spread to other thatched houses also. Seeing the fire that engulfed the thatched house of Pendem Bala Nagu, a woman nearby immediately went into the house and brought elder son Gopichand (5) safely.

However, the flames already engulfed the thatched house in which the other boy Nagendra Babu was sleeping. In this fire mishap, he was burnt alive. On receiving information, parents reached the house. The fire tenders from Koyyalagudem reached the spot and controlled the flames.
