Chittoor registers huge development: Collector
Chittoor: As expected, the district witnessed enormous development during the years with the cooperation of various departments, says District Collector P S Pradyumna. Stage has been set for declaring the district as ODF (Open Defecation Free). About 2.25 lakh individual latrines have already come as against the target of 3.0 lakhs and the rest would be completed by 31 March,2018, he said.
As per the instructions of the Government, Ugadi festival was celebrated here on Sunday in which a colourful function was held at Nagaiah Kalakshethram. The Collector, in his presidential address, expressed his pleasure for witnessing substantial growth in agriculture, industries , National High ways, Education, Social Welfare and other departments.
Ugadi festival is the mark of happiness, peace and prosperity to all communities, “ he said and recalled the great services of the ancestors in promoting the culture, tradition, and language. He stressed on the need to strengthen the basics of Telugu. It would not be fair to undermine the significance of Telugu language for encouraging other languages particularly English, he said.
ZP Chairperson Girvani Chandra Prakash participating in the event as chief guest recalled the sweet memories of the Ugadi festival in rural segments. ``We are fascinating for western culture and encouraging the children to call their parents as mammy and, daddy. We are really ashamed that we are neglecting our mother tongue,’’ he said.
B N Rajasimhulu , MLC reiterated that Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu is committed for encouraging Telugu language at all levels in administration. Chittoor Mayor K Hemalatha, District TDP President P Nani, and others were present. The District Collector felicitated 28 poets and writers on the occasion. District Officers Ravi Prakash Reddy, Vijayakumar and others were present.
