Amaravati: Transport minister K Atchannaidu said the Andhra Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation (APSRTC) is ready to give its lands for commercial use under the public-private partnership (PPP) mode.

Answering to members during the question hour in the Assembly on Wednesday, the minister said there is no demand for RTC lands in small towns and villages for using commercial purpose. However, the minister said there is huge demand for lands in the major towns like Visakhapatnam and Tirupati.

Stating the RTC had completed 26 projects across the state under PPP mode, he said the RTC had earned Rs 10 crore with the commercial use of lands and added the government had taken a decision to improve revenues by allotting lands to private investors. He also admitted the land encroachments could be avoided through allotting lands for commercial purpose.

MLA Chand Basha requested the government to take steps to construct commercial complexes and function hall in the vacant land at Kadiri bus station.  Though the RTC has valuable lands at bus stations, those are being encroached due to negligence, the MLA pointed out.
