Naramsetti bags Kendra Sahitya Academy Award
Vizianagaram: Naramsetti Uma Maheswara Rao, author of child literature, was selected for Kendra Sahitya Academy award for 2018 in child literature category.
Naramsetti was working in Indian Postal Service and started writing for children since 1981 and so far he has written around 1500 short stories and many poems.
He has written 43 novels and 20 of them were published so far. He even distributes books to school children to habituate them to read books.
Generally, Kendra Sahitya Academy selects 24 writers from each regional language who are working on children literature and select one from each language for this award.
‘Ananda Lokam’, a folk novel written by Umamaheswara Rao, was selected for the award from Andhra Pradesh.
The award will be presented on November 14 on children’s day, along with a memento, certificate and Rs 50,000. Prior to this, he won various awards from several cultural organisations in the state.
