Vijayawada: Andhra Pradesh Congress Women Affairs in-charge and former MLA Seethakka (D Anasuya) said on Sunday that India is the most unsafe place for women according to a survey conducted by international agency.

She said that women were facing many problems under the rule of NDA in the country and TDP in the State. She participated in the executive committee meeting of women’s Congress organised by AP Women Congress committee president Sunkara Padmasri at the Andhra Ratna Bhavan here.

Sitakka inaugurated Project Shakti programme, in which AICC President Rahul Gandhi would interact with women activists over phone. Speaking on the occasion, she said that safety of women in the country was at stake as crimes against women were on the rise.

She said many cases of sexual abuse, harassment, women trafficking, turning women into sexual slaves, forceful marriages, child marriages, forced domestic slavery and more atrocities were being reported. Women in India are more prone to violence and attacks when compared to war torn countries like Afghanistan and Syria, according to a survey, she added. Sitakka said India tops the world in sexual harassment and women trafficking. She said that the survey revealed that the country stood in third position in gender bias, domestic violence, fourth in health and hygiene of women which was frightening.

Sitakka said that AICC President Rahul Gandhi would talk to all women activists and know their problems. She expressed concern over rapes and attacks on women increasing by the day in the country. AP women Congress leaders and activists participated in the meeting.
