AP State govt failed to implement reservation: Congress

Amaravati: The Congress party complained to Union Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment that the State government did not implement reservations to BCs, SCs and STs in medical counselling by NTR University of Health Sciences violating GO No.550.  As a result, the candidates belonging to reservation category were losing seats in medial courses.

APCC Doctors’ Cell co-chairman Dr Ambati Naga Radhakrishna alleged that the AP Higher Education Department gave GO 550 in 2001 for conducting medical admissions into undergraduate courses. But, a private suit was filed in the High court of Andhra Pradesh and stay was taken by a few private people.

The High Court then directed the government to file a counter affidavit in September, 2017, but surprisingly neither Dr NTR Health University nor the Government of Andhra Pradesh filed counter for the reasons best known to them, he pointed out. “As a result, hundreds of reserved category students were losing the opportunity to get seats and pursue medical education,” he said.
