Get pet animals vaccinated, owners told: World Zoonoses Day

Bhimavaram: World Zoonoses Day was observed as rabies awareness day at Government Veterinary Hospital here on Friday.

Department of animal husbandry, Bhimavaram municipal corporation and voluntary organisation Sri Vignana Vedika jointly organised a rally, pledge and seminar to educate owners of pet animals on the infectious diseases.

Those who participated in the rally raised slogans including ‘Rabies dangerous disease’, ‘No cure for rabies’ and ‘Administer anti-rabies vaccine to owners of pet animals’.

Bhimavaram Municipal Commissioner Ch Naga Narsimha Rao, who was chief guest on the occasion, urged people to avail free medical facilities for them and their pet animals.

Deputy director of animal husbandry department Dr Satya Govind said that it was necessary to get rid of stray dogs and move pigs to outskirts to avoid communicable diseases.

Social worker Ch Ranga Sai, Govt Hospital head Dr Veeraswamy, and others were present.
