Vijayawada: Andhra Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) vice-president Dr N Tulasi Reddy said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu should explain to the people the progress of Polavaram Project.

Speaking to the mediapersons here on Wednesday, he said that Gadkari's Polavaram visit should not be a formal tour. He asked the government to complete the multipurpose project by June 2019.

He also said that the project would have been completed, if the Congress was voted to power in the last elections. Expressing concern over the tardy progress of the work, he said that the government should complete the project as early as possible. He recalled that the Congress government provided national status to the project.

The Congress leader pointed out that the State government could not get approval for the revised cost estimates of the project from the Centre so far. Nearly Rs 55,000 crore funds are required for the project implementation, he said. He demanded that the government should pay compensation to farmers who lost their lands due to submergence.
