Eluru: The West Godavari District Collector K Bhaskar, has questioned the officials of the agriculture and banks on the status of the loans targeted for this year.

He convened a review meeting with officials on the progress of the agricultural sector here, on Wednesday.

Speaking on the occasion, he asked the officials whether they had met the loan target of Rs 1,400 crore for the tenant farmers.

When the officials said, that they had issued Rs 750 crore loans to tenant farmers so far, the Collector asked them to submit a comprehensive report on farm loans prepared jointly by bankers and agricultural officials.

He directed the officials to issue loans worth Rs 400 crore during the next 15 days. On loans issued to farmers, he wondered why the officials are lagging behind in giving loans.

When the government intended to issue loans to the tune of Rs 9,456 crore, the officials lagged behind by issuing loans of Rs 2,650 crore.

When farmers need loans, the officials should give priority to loans to help them carryout farming.

The Fertilisers and the  micronutrients should be supplied to the farmers in all the  parts of the district without delay.

He told the officials to issue micronutrients free of cost to the farmers as mentioned in the soil cards.

He warned the officials to face action if they failed  to deliver the  goods to the farming community.
