Vijayawada: Members of Bezwada Bar Association took out a rally here on Friday in protest against the highhanded behaviour of the BJP-led NDA government in clamping down on the civil liberties activists, who are also human rights advocates, including Surendra Gadling, Sudha Baradwaj, Aruna Perora and others.

AP Bar Council member Sunkara Rajendra Prasad addressing the gathering said that the NDA government has been indulging in undemocratic and unconstitutional crack down on the human rights activists on the pretext of having links with the Maoists. He said that people’s poets like Varavara Rao, the secretary of Viplava Rachaitala Sangham (Virasam), is being hounded and booked in false cases only to gag his voice.

The Bezwada Bar Association advocates appealed to the Central government to desist from the anti-people activities and stick to the rule of law. Former Bar Association presidents Ch Manmadha Rao, Matta Jayakar and Dodla Lakshmana Rao, senior advocates Ganga Bhavani and Rajyalakshmi and others participated in the protest demonstration.
