50% panchayat staff never visit villages of posting

Eluru: West Godavari District Collector K Bhaskar has said that nearly 50 percent of Panchayat secretaries and Extension officers of Panchayat Raj department are not visiting villages to which they have been posted to.

He inspected development in panchayats here on Friday. Speaking on the occasion, he informed that biometric attendance revealed that half of the panchayat staff did not attend duties. 

The development works remain stalled during the past one month. “If this is the attitude of the panchayat staff, it is difficult to carry out sanitation works. 

Even after warnings, the panchayat staff ignoring their duties. The day is not far when they face job security,” he warned.

The Collector said that the panchayats were stinking because of the sanitation workers’ strike. It was sunny weather which saved people from contagious diseases. 

The villages faced very unhygienic conditions during the past few days and there was threat of epidemic. However, they survived because of sunny weather, he added.

He warned the panchayat secretaries with stern action if they failed to visit their posting places and improve sanitation conditions. 

Those who would ignore their duties would soon get show cause notices. If their absence was established during inquiry, they should face the music, he warned.
