Cases booked for public peeing

Tirupati: The civic body is collecting fine from public urinators for the last four days. To upkeep of sanitation in pilgrim city, Municipal Corporation of Tirupati (MCT) Commissioner V Vijay Rama Raju had issued orders to collect fine of Rs 100 from those who were caught urinating in public places. 

The city has population of 5.5 lakh and around 60,000 floating population comes to Tirupati every day from surrounding villages and towns. The MCT has constructed more than 50 toilets with urination facility at various localities for pilgrims and people coming from other places.

In Swachh Survekshan 2018 rankings, Tirupati had secured All-India sixth rank. Vijay Rama Raju aims to secure first place in 2019 Swachh Survekshan rankings. The civic staff booked 20 cases for peeing in public. The ­­Corporation Commissioner handed over the contract to Sulab International Organisation for maintenance of public toilets to encourage people for using them. 

The sanitary inspectors were assigned with the task of checking the maintenance of public toilets in their respective divisions. Also, they have to ensure toilets are clean and a log sheet to be maintained to record details. Officials of the MCT are planning to introduce mobile toilets and urinal facility for pilgrims in crowded places like Nandi Circle and bus stands. 

Speaking to The Hans India, civic body chief has stated that open defecation has stopped 100 per cent in the city. To stop people from peeing in public places, our staff are encouraging them to use public urinals and at the same time imposing fines and booking cases on rule breakers, he stated.
