Ousted part-time teachers demand restoration of jobs, services
Chittoor: Protesting against the Government’s indiscriminate action in terminating them without any prior intimation or notice , the part time teachers of Sarva Siksha Abhiyan (SSA), Chittoor district have staged dharna at the Collectorate on Tuesday demanding resuming their services.
P Chaithanya, Chairman, Joint Action Committee, SSA Part-Time Teachers Union, addressing the agitating teachers, has condemned the Government’s apathy towards the demands of part-time teachers for the past several months. Without giving prior intimation, the State government has terminated the services of all the 280 part-time teachers working under Sarva Siksha Abhiyan (SSA) in Chittoor district, he alleged.
“All the terminated part-time teachers are highly qualified with proven experience. They were appointed through outsourcing agencies and the District Collector has selected them as per the regular procedure. They have joined the SSA jobs with great hope of continuing in the service,’’ he said.
Protesting against the Governments attitude towards them, the part time teachers have resorted for indefinite hunger strike for more than one week to draw the attention of the District Collector. As per the assurance given by V R Chandramouli, Joint Collector -2, they have dropped their agitation recently . Surprisingly, the SSA has given notification for filling the above 280 part time teacher posts in the district ignoring the teachers who had earlier worked.
