Braille immortal for his script: Collector K Bhaskar

Eluru: District Collector K Bhaskar has said the Braille script, which is widely used by the visually impaired worldwide, has not lost its sheen even though technology is overtaking everything in the fast changing world. 

Going by this one can imagine the greatness of the language. The credit goes to its creator Sir Louis Braille, he said.

The Collector participated in 210th birth anniversary celebrations of Braille at Collectorate here on Friday. He paid tributes to Braille by garlanding his portrait. He cut a cake to mark the occasion.

Speaking on the occasion, the Collector said that Sir Louis Braille had researched for 30 years to provide a solution to the blind to communicate with others and work independently. 

The Braille script is being used in about 190 countries. With his valuable services to humanity, Sir Braille has a permanent place in the hearts of the blind, he added.

The Collector along with visually challenged released a Braille calendar on the occasion. He also handed over implements and felicitated the blind on the occasion.

Louis School for Blind, Kovvuru president Srinivasa Rao, Visually Challenged Employees’ Association secretary Veerabhadra Rao, Visually Challenged Unemployed Association secretary Uma Venkateswara Rao, Visually Handicapped Welfare Association for Women organizer P Kishore and others were present.
