Horticulture generating 10,000 crore income annually: Veera Pandian

Anantapur: District administration and people's representatives participated in the 70th Republic Day celebrations at the Police Parade Grounds here on Saturday.
 
Addressing participants soon after hoisting the national flag, District Collector Veera Pandian stated that the district is making rapid strides in horticulture and is spread in 1.81 lakh hectares registering a yield of 54.86 lakh metric tonnes and an income of Rs 10,000 crore yearly. 

On the drip irrigation front, the district stands number one in the country by bringing 88,000 acres. 

By doing so, 57.88 tmcft of water had been conserved and generated 29.29 lakh metric tonnes of yield. On the housing front, the Collector said that 65,000 houses had been sanctioned and 49,000 houses are in the process of being completed.
 
The district stands second in the State in fast completion of houses. On the industrialisation front, Kia Motors stands as a massive edifice in the district with Rs 13,000 crore investment and employment to 11,000 jobless. 

As many as 17 ancillary industries are also poised to come up in the area with an investment of Rs 17,790 crore and 19,000 jobs. 

District officials and local MLA V Prabhakar Choudhury was present. All government departments had set up multiple stalls to showcase government schemes.
