One State-One Number comes into force

Vijayawada: Transport minister K Atchannaidu launched ‘One State–One Number’ (AP 39), a uniform vehicle registration number for vehicles across the state of Andhra Pradesh. 

While inaugurating the programme amidst fanfare here on Wednesday, the minister claimed that this is the first-of-its-kind in the country and across the world. He released the first registration number ‘AP 39A 0002’ issued to Muppalla Kalpana after launching the new initiative.

Speaking on the occasion, Atchannaidu said that with the able governance of Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu, many innovative changes were brought in the transport department during the last four years. He said that technology was used with human angle to benefit people.

“One State–One Number’ is the good example which made the transport department of the state proud and the credit goes to the transport commissioner and the entire staff of the department,” he said.

The minister said that earlier issuing a fancy number was a major problem. However, with the initiative taken by the transport commissioner using the technology and with the support from the government the problem was addressed. He also said all the services of the transport department have been made online for the convenience of the people and curb corruption. 

Atchannaidu said with the new vehicle registration process the revenue would increase, every three days there would be about 1,000 number and there would be many fancy numbers. He recalled that income generated by the transport department before 2014 was Rs 1,400 crore. 

However, it has been increased to Rs 3,000 crore without increasing taxes which was made possible by strengthening the system without corruption.

He said that the department would introduce Iris scan if problem arises with bio-metric shortly. PayTM, online payment system, will also be introduced for payment to be done to the transport department in the days to come, the minister said and appreciated the department for issuing about two lakh LLRs by organising ‘LLR Mela’ at colleges and interior villages.

The minister assured people to resolve third party insurance issue soon which is serious in Vijayawada. He added that about 10 lakh families were benefited by tax waiver on all types of auto-rickshaws. Abhaya app will be introduced for the safety of women and girls, the minister announced.
