Tirupati: Madanapalle town in Chittoor district, which is facing drinking water crisis in all the seasons, has got permanent drinking water solution. Thanks to AP state government initiation, water resource department had designed one exclusive summer storage tank to supply enough drinking water to Madanapalle residents.
It may be noted that across the Andhra Pradesh for the last five decades, Madanapalle town and surrounding areas, which has a population of 1.8 lakhs, had been facing severe drinking water crisis. So far in this town, the civic body used to supply water once in two weeks through tankers.
The town has been made a municipality in 1961. Due to constant falling of groundwater table, Madanapalle has been experiencing famine conditions year after year. In this backdrop, Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu had instructed the officials two years ago to build a summer storage tank under the Handri-Neeva Sujala Sravanthi project –II to cater to the drinking water needs of Madanapalle.
On the instructions of the Chief Minister, Chippili summer storage tank was constructed for 0.5 tmc feet of water storage. Now the time has come to fill up the water in Chippili tank. Just two weeks ago, HNSS Krishna river water reached the Chippili water tank through Pungunur main branch canal.
As per the government instructions, HNSS Tirupati CE R Murali Nath Reddy took the action to fill the water in summer storage tank at Madanapalle. Water resource department engineers diverted the 12 tmc ft water into Chippili tank. This storage water is more than enough to supply sufficient drinking water in Madanapalle town in ensuing summer season. It is really a big sigh of relief to all the Madanapalle town residents. First time they are going to get sufficient drinking water at their doorstep.
In the meanwhile, the government instructed to fill the water in Pungamme summer water storage tank at Punganur town. Water officials have taken measures to fill the tank with 12 tmc ft shortly. According to the latest reports, Krishna water has reached the Pungunur outskirts just two days ago.
While HNNS CE R Murali Nath Reddy speaking to The Hans India told that we are giving first priority to supply the drinking water to Madanapalle as well as Pungunur towns in ensuing summer season. Already Chippili tank is filled up by the Krishna water for drinking purpose. It is a permanent solution to severe drought-affected Madanapalle, added CE, HNSS-II.
