  • To be resolved soon, says E Srinivasa Chary, Executive Engineer
  • Centralised Control Management System (CCMS) was installed after Conventional lights were replaced with around 4 lakh LEDs
  • There are about 25,000 on/off switches operated under CCMS
  • The streetlights are controlled and managed by the CCMS boxes

Hyderabad: In the past few days, the street lights in the city have been running on 24/7 in various areas such as Rahmatnagar, Film Nagar and others, but the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) officials have been turning a blind eye towards the problem.

However, the GHMC has recently replaced 4,08,352 conventional lights with LED lights and more than 1,800 lights are yet to be replaced. 25,084 Centralised Control and Management System (CCMS) units are installed out of required quantity of 26,100.

All the streetlights will be controlled and managed through centralized CCMS boxes. These boxes are specially designed for streetlights projects to ensure an optimal performance. This will result in drastic reduction of operational and maintenance cost.

When enquired about the same subject, E Srinivasa Chary, Executive Engineer of Electrical in GHMC said that there were around 25,000 on and off switches installed to monitor the street lights, but due to some technical problems few switches were not working. He also added that the GHMC team was monitoring the problem and would be resolved at the earliest.

The monthly power consumption and electricity bills came down since the LEDs were installed. The energy saving since the beginning of the project is 69,15, 803 Units & the corresponding amount reduction in electricity bills is Rs 60 Cr.

Any citizen can view the glowing/non-glowing of street lights and all electrical parameters through the CCMS dashboard on the GHMC website.
