Shahalibanda: As part of clearing the traffic obstructions near heritage structures between Shahalibanda and Murgi Chowk on Khilwath Road, the traffic police cleared off and seized vehicles wrongly parked and confiscated the overhanging material of businesses and street vendors on Monday.

The drive was led by G Naganna, ACP Traffic (South Zone VI), who inspected the stretch between Shahalibanda and Murgi Chowk. A total of 15 four-wheelers lying idle on the road for some time and related to a nearby workshop were seized by the cops. Later, the vehicles were towed down to Goshamahal police station. A penalty of Rs 1,200 were imposed on each of the vehicles by the officials. The officials informed that the route should have been cleared due to heavy traffic and presence of heritage structures. “Owing to this illegal parking, the commuters suffer and during the recent days, there has been a regular traffic jam on this entire stretch, which prompted us to initiate strong measures” said ACP.

Interestingly, the vehicles which were related to the workshop had already received a number of challans on several occasions by traffic poilce. Acting on the instructions of ACP, A Srinivas, Circle Inspector Traffic (Bahadurpura), along with his team lifted all the vehicles and shifted them to Goshamahal police station. “We have earlier asked to clear the vehicles, but they did not pay heed. Now, we had to resort to strong action against these business establishments. Anyone found to be violating the norms would be punished,” warned the police official.
