Fact-finding team visits accident spot at Rein Bazar
Rein Bazar: National SC Commission Member, K Ramulu along with former Deputy Mayor, G Subhash Chander and Jai Ho Bharatiyam president, G Hanumantha Rao on Sunday visited the spot where a GHMC contract sweeper died after being hit by police patrol vehicle in Bada Bazar under Rein Bazar police station limits on Thursday.
Hanumantha said that the team enquired about the reasons which led to the accident, where Mangi Sayamma, 55, was knocked down by the police patrol car. He said that the team questioned the policemen as to how a head constable without licence was provided with the vehicle. They held meetings with both GHMC and police officials in this regard and also asked to ensure that compensation be provided without further delay.
It may be mentioned here that the head constable, A Ashok who drove the vehicle was suspended and was later arrested. The City police commissioner, Anjani Kumar also issued a charge memo to the Inspector, Rein Bazar. On Thursday, the woman contract sweeper with the GHMC was killed after she was knocked down by a police patrolling car, driven by a head constable who was allegedly learning driving with the vehicle in Rein Bazaar. Sayamma was a resident of Champapet and native of Nalgonda district.
Her relatives alleged that the patrolling car was being driven at high speed and hit her while she was sweeping the road in Yakutpura. She was the sole bread earner of the family. An ex-gratia of Rs 2 lakh for the kin of Sayamma was announced by Mayor B Ram Mohan, besides a job to one among the family members. The kin of the deceased will also get Rs 7 lakh insurance.
