SFI demands withdrawal of private varsities in Telangana

 ​Khammam: District Secretary of the Student Federation of India (SFI) Thalla Nagaraju here on Tuesday demanded that the government withdraw the decision of allow private universities in the State.

The SFI activists burnt an effigy of the State government and raised the slogans like “We do not want private universities in Telangana which witnessed sacrifices of many martyrs.”

Speaking on the occasion, Nagaraju alleged that in the recently introduced budget, the State government intentionally slashed funds to all government universities. The government was determined to stunt the growth of universities, he said.

The government is trying to encourage private universities by handling over the entire education sector to the Ambanis, he said.

As many 1,600 posts of professors and assistant professors remained vacant in eleven government universities in the State. Instead of filling them and developing the universities, the government is trying to hand over the Universities to corporate companies, he alleged.

SFI representatives Jammi Ashok, Gayathri, Gopi, Srikanth, Raju, Shankar and Madhu were present along with others.
