Telangana in one-of-its-kind initiative gears up for launch of Kanti Velugu

A majority of the people, including children, do have eye-related issues. In one-of-its-kind initiative, the Telangana government has decided to carry out eye checkup, provide treatment and if required, even perform surgery.

Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao is all set to launch the Eye screening programme, Kanti Velugu in Gajwel constituency on August 15.

The programme aimed to conduct eye screening for all the people of the state will be launched simultaneously all over Telangana at 799 places with Ministers, MPs, MLAs, MLCs and elected representatives set to participate.

KCR had announced the scheme well-in-advance sharing that 799 teams have been formed and each team consists of an MBBS doctor, an ANM, an Optometrist, and others.

Every team is targeted to screen 250 persons every day. 114 eye hospitals including both private and government have been identified by the officials to conduct operations.

Through the program, the Telangana Government has planned to conduct free eye tests to all the 3.70 crore people in the State.

Last month, Industries Minister KT Rama Rao promoting the scheme, urged the district administration to give a wide publicity through reports in media and other means of communication to the State government’s free eye testing programme to make the people aware about the programme.

Sufficient medical teams have been deployed, covering all villages in the district concerned under Kanti Velugu eye camps as per schedule. 

According to Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) Mayor Dr B Rammohan, nearly 1.20 crore citizens will have treatment and tests of Eye Related Problems under ‘Kanti Velugu’ programme in the GHMC limits.

Elaborate arrangements are being made for the programme in Hyderabad with around One crore people residing in the city, the government is planning to cover each and every citizen under the free eye check-up scheme in an estimated period of five months.

The GHMC is having around 150 wards and each ward will be provided with two Eye Test Centres free of cost for the convenience of the citizens. Eye tests will be conducted in GHMC Community Halls and other Government buildings from morning 9 AM to 4 PM.

As per the schedule, the citizens will be provided with slips in advance at their households mentioning the date and time for the eye tests. Every designated centre will be equipped with basic minimum facilities such as water, lighting, sanitation, seating arrangements besides staff, material and eye testing equipment, medicines and spectacles.

The citizens are required to present their Aadhar cards for their Eye Test.
