Special team to closely monitor metro stations
New Delhi: As part of efforts to prevent crimes in the Delhi Metro, a special police team has been formed to identify suspicious elements roaming on the platforms and trains, a senior officer said.
The special team, formed by the Delhi Metro Rail Police that is part of the Delhi Police, will oversee over 150 metro stations.
The team, comprising a head constable and four constables, move in and around metro stations and keep an eye on pickpockets and snatchers.
While some members of the team will be in civvies, the rest will be in uniform.
The team was formed by Deputy Commissioner of Police (Delhi Metro) Deepak Gauri.
The team has already prevented cases of molestation and snatchings by nabbing some persons who were found to be roaming in a suspicious manner, the officer claimed.
At Vishwavidyalaya Metro station, the team caught hold of two-three men who were loitering around and eyeing girls, the officer said.
Apart from the task of keeping an eye on suspicious elements, the team also has the job of analysing whether there are any security lapses or dark spots near the stations.
