Maternal Mortality rate drops, with Kerala leading the improvement
NEW DELHI:India, now, has a significant development, in one of the areas that it always has lagged in comparison to neighbours like China, Sri Lanka and Maldives .
Maternal Mortality rate has always been an area that India has been behind, placing at 124 among 184 nations. This recent improvement is due to the mortality rate falling from 167 to 130 per 100,000 births. The state with the least maternal mortality rate is Kerala, with the numbers dropping from 61 to 46, placing at 1st.
All the others states also had significant improvements compared to previous years, with significant changes in EAG states and Assam.
Nevertheless, the mortality rate in Assam is still high with the number being 237 deaths per 100,000 births followed by UP, with a maternal mortality rate being 201 deaths per 100,000 births.
This development indicates the efforts made for improving maternal care, increase in the number of institutional deliveries and more attention being paid to health protocols, during deliveries.
