Theatres allowed to hike ticket price in Telangana, AP

Hyderabad: The High Court at Hyderabad has allowed theatres in both Telangana State and Andhra Pradesh to increase the ticket prices and to collect them forthwith without even obtaining any prior approval from licensing authority.  Justice S V Bhatt gave this direction, while hearing the pleas of various theatre owners who filed writ petitions, seeking permission to allow them to hike ticket price.

The judge noted the inaction of both the States in framing scientific parameters for fixing the prices of cinema tickets.  In fact, what the judge did was a reiteration of the order of a single judge who allowed theatres to hike prices on December 12, 2016. Some of the key directions that allowed theatres to hike ticket prices with intimation to the authorities were reiterated by the court.
