It is learnt that developments relating to the case filed by two Congress MLAs against their expulsion in the High Court were linked to the abrupt decision of the AG quitting his office. The government was reportedly unhappy with the AG acceding to the court request to produce the entire footage of the disputed proceedings of the Assembly related to the expulsion of the Congress MLAs.

In the hearing held after the AG’s assurance, Additional Advocate General J Ramachandra Rao appeared before the judge and submitted that the footage could be given only after the House passed a resolution and it would take some time.

It is also learnt that the Advocate General was unhappy at the reported decision of the government to bring in senior Supreme Court advocate Harish Salve to argue the case on behalf of the government on March 27. It is speculated that this could be the reason for the abrupt resignation of the AG. When reporters sought his reaction, the AG cryptically declined to comment.
