Hanamkonda: Taking up the ‘Green India Challenge’, Kakatiya Urban Development Authority (KUDA) chairman Marri Yadava Reddy, vice-chairman VP Gautham and a host of officials planted three saplings each. The challenge is to plant saplings and nominate others to do the same in support of the Haritha Haram.

Speaking to media persons at KUDA office here on Monday, Yadava Reddy said that KUDA has 10 lakh saplings ready for plantation as part of Haritha Haram phase-IV. “Last year, the KUDA distributed 10 lakh saplings by arranging five special vehicles. This year also we are doing the same,” he said.

Besides supplying saplings to households, a decision was also taken to plant 2 lakh saplings in the open spaces of KUDA-permitted layouts, he added, stating that authorities had already spoke to the stakeholders.

Speaking on the occasion, Gautham said that onus is on all the denizens to bring awareness on green drive besides promoting plantation drive as their contribution to nature. “Giving a clean environment to the next generations is our responsibility,” he said, appealing to people to inculcate this habit among their children. KUDA secretary Muralidhar Rao, executive engineer Bheem Rao, AO Satyanarayana, DE Anand and Venkateshwarlu were among others present.
