Fever cases on rise in district

Kothagudem: The continuous rains for the past few days not only damaged crops and properties, but also spread diseases in the district, especially the problem is more in tribal villages. All the hospitals and primary health centres are full of patients suffering with fever. According to sources, at least 15 people have died with dengue in the district in the last 10 days.

People living in the Agency mandals - Charla, Dummagudem, Pinapaka, Gundala, Manuguru, Karakagudem, Aswaraopet, Mulkalapally, Tekulapally, Kothagudem and Yellandu areas are suffering from fever.

Heavy rains and floods coupled with lack of proper sanitation are causing the number of fever patients to increase with each day. A long line of patients could be seen in both government and private hospitals across the district and most of the patients are suffering with fever.

As the gram panchayat staff are on strike, the garbage was left on the roads in all villages. This rubbish got mixed with rain water, which is causing infection and diseases among the public. Several cases of malaria were registered in about 25 primary health centres.

The health department identified 860 villages in about 103 sub-centers were identified as malaria-affected areas in the district. The officials haven’t sprayed the indoor residual spray to prevent spread of malaria in all villages during the first phase. 169 villages are pending. According to sources, about 238 malaria cases, 687 typhoid and 81 dengue cases were registered in the district till date.

Speaking to the media, Assistant Malaria Officer Krishnaiah said they are taking all measures to prevent spread of fever in villages and special camps are being arranged in villages.

Speaking to The Hans India, District Medical and Health Officer Dr Dayanath Swamy said that only 13 dengue and 238 malaria cases were identified across the district. No dengue case was found in the district during last year, he added.

They have identified 40 villages in the district to be rescued. A special camp in each mandal headquarters is being conducted, he added. He felt the strike of gram panchayat staff has aggravated the fever cases in the district.
