8 Warangal patients discharged from LV Prasad eye hospital

Hyderabad: Eight patients from Warangal district who were shifted and operated at LV Prasad Eye hospital following botched-up cataract surgeries were discharged on Monday. According to government officials, health condition of all the eight was improving and hence they were discharged. They were advised to come for a follow up screening after four weeks.

Of the discharged patients, five are female. Except for two patients who are 45 and 48 years of age, rest of them are in 50 to 70 years age group. Although authorities stated that health condition was improving, family members of patients were not happy as eyesight was not completely restored for them.

It may be mentioned here that cataract operations were done for 19 patients belonging to Warangal (Urban), Warangal (Rural) and Jayashankar-Bhupalpally districts on September 26 in Jaya Nursing Home (Warangal). Soon, they developed inflammation in the interior of the operated eye which was observed in follow up visit on September 28. 

The patients were shifted to LV Prasad Eye Hospital in Hyderabad and eleven of them were operated for Vitrectomy. Due to botched-up surgeries, the operation theatre of Jaya Nursing Home was seized immediately and an inquiry has been ordered. The eye operations were done under NPCB (National Programme for Control of Blindness).
