ECIL: A Palapitta (Indian Roller or Blue Jay) was rescued from a pandal that was erected for Dusherra festivities here on Friday. The forest and wildlife crime control cell, a team of officials, anti-poaching squad, and volunteers of Friends of Snakes Society, on a tip-off rushed to the pandal in ECIL area and rescued the bird that was caged.

The bird was put on display for the visitors attending the festivities.  The bird was taken to an animal shelter where it was provided with water and food in form of insects, grasshoppers.   The bird was weak and dehydrated when it was rescued, but after providing food and water, it became active and by morning it was trying to fly out said an official. The bird was later taken to a scrub forest near the cantonment area and was released.  It flew off swiftly.
