BJP just filled vacuum left by Congress, TDP: Asaduddin Owaisi
Hyderabad: The just-concluded GHMC elections have thrown up interesting factors. Though the BJP might have succeeded in increasing the vote percentage, in terms of seats, it has lost wherever Union Home Minister Amit Shah and UP Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath had campaigned.
According to All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslim president Asaduddin Owaisi, the Bharatiya Janata Party had only filled the political vacuum created by the decimation of Congress and TDP but failed to storm Hyderabad. It could not make any impact in the AIMIM stronghold under the Hyderabad Parliamentary constituency.
Asaduddin said that all the hype created by the national media which sang praises of BJP during the campaign time could not influence the voters. "The democratic strike gave a befitting reply to the threat of surgical strike by BJP in the Old City," he said. The AIMIM, Asad said, had exhibited excellent team work.
The party contested 34 divisions in the Hyderabad Lok Sabha constituency and won 33. It won nine in Secunderabad and two in Chevella. They had contested in 51 wards and won 44 wards. All elected corporators will start visiting their respective divisions to thank the voters.
On the pledge of the BJP to change Hyderabad's name, Owaisi said Yogi Adityanath should first see that in Uttar Pradesh the unconstitutional laws passed by the BJP are stopped.
In response to a question as to whether the AIMIM would help the TRS in electing the mayor, Owaisi said that before making a decision, he would hold a meeting with his party officials.
