Cops identify 84 accident prone spots along State, national highways in Khammam

Khammam: Police Commissioner Tafseer Iqbal on Sunday revealed that the police department has identified 84 accident-prone areas on State and National Highways passing through the district.

He participated in a coordination meeting to plan steps to prevent accidents at these accident-prone areas with the officials of Roads and Buildings, Road Transport and Health department at his office on Sunday. Speaking at the meeting, he suggested the officials to take precautions to prevent road accidents at these accident spots.

He added that the police department has taken up road accident group analysis programme and added that many accidents were takin place on national highways due to high speeds.

Adding that many were losing their lives due to over speed and lack of awareness. The Police Commissioner said more accidents were being reported during nights that have been happening due to drunk driving. Another reasons for accidents are narrow curves, bushes and wells on roadsides, he observed.

Adding that the number of accidents happening in the district are on the rise for the last two years, he said the police department should focus on finding permanent solutions to prevent accidents.

He said that the department has decided to take up special drive and install sign boards with regard to speed limit, awareness about wearing helmet, not to drink and drive. Additional DCP I Puja, RTO P Krishna Reddy, officials from National Highways, Roads and Buildings and the Police department participated.
