GHMC election 2020: Poor voter turnout witnessed in first four hours

Hyderabad: In the first four hours i.e, till 11 am on Tuesday, poor voter turnout has been witnessed. Only 8.9 per cent voters exercised their votes.

Polling centres under GHMC limits particularly in Old city wore a deserted look in the first two hours due to the chilly weather conditions. However, after 9 am, people gradually began to queue up at the polling centres.

State Election Commissioner C Parthasarathy said that the polling is underway on a peaceful note. "The polling process is being observed through webcasts and micro-observers and all steps are being taken to ensure that no untoward incident takes place," he said after casting his vote.

Meanwhile, polling called off at two polling centres in Old Malakpet after the party symbols were changed in the ballot paper. On the demand of CPI to stop the polling, the election commission stopped the election until further orders.
