Warangal: There is an imperative need for the poets and writers to touch the lives of people especially the dalits with their work, Prof Guguloth Veeranna, Director, School of Distance Learning and Continuing Education (SDLCE) of the Kakatiya University (KU) said.

Speaking at the book release of 'Sukti Ratnavali' authored by Damera Ashok, Lecturer at Kakatiya Government Degree College, here on Sunday, he urged the upcoming poets and writers to focus on issues faced by the common man.

Referring to the Sukti Ratnavali, Prof Veeranna heaped praise on its author Ashok for extensively exploring the depths of morals and ethics. Former MLA Mandadi Satyanarayana Reddy explained the need for protecting the culture and traditions, instead of running behind the western lifestyle. "Even the NASA has recognised the importance of Sanskrit, but unfortunately our own people are not ready to accept it," Reddy said.

SVSA College retired principal Dr Y Nagaiah, who presided over the event explained about the importance of Upanishads and Puranas. "We need to get to know the ancient Vedic literature and its significance," he said, appealing to people to give due patronage to Sanskrit. Speaking on the occasion, author Damera Ashok explained why he had dedicated his book - Sukti Ratnavali – to Kambampati Laxma Reddy, former Narsampet MLA, who is no more.

"I was impressed by the straightforwardness of Laxma Reddy and his commitment towards his constituency people." Laxma Reddy's son Kiran Reddy thanked Ashok for dedicating his work to his father. "I am expecting more such works from Ashok, who was my teacher in the past," he said.
