Man gets life term for killing wife in Hyderabad

Hyderabad: The IV ADJ Court at LB Nagar on Wednesday sentenced a person G Mahipal Reddy (36) for life imprisonment for killing his wife for additional dowry and imposed a fine of Rs 5,000 on him.

According to police, on February 22, 2012 at 1 am, Nacharam police received a information about the victim named G Saritha (23) was admitted in the female burns ward of a hospital.

Police rushed to the spot and recorded her statement in which she stated that, she was married to the accused G Mahipal Reddy and was blessed with two children. She was working in a private company at Mallapur, while accused Mahipal Reddy took trolley vehicle through finance, later due to non-payment of installments the finance authorities seized the vehicle.

Since then the accused was addicted to alcohol and started harassing his wife physically and mentally for additional dowry. On February 22, 2012 at about 10:30 pm, the accused came home in inebriated state and took up arguments with his wife.

Later, when she was sleeping, the accused doused here with kerosene and set afire, resulting which she received severe burns injuries. The accused then took her gold and fled away from the spot.

Two days after the incident, the victim succumbed to injuries at Gandhi Hospital. Basing on the statement of the victim, a case was registered at Nacharam police station under sections 302 and 304-B IPC and on Wednesday the accused was convicted and sentenced to life imprisonment.
