Mela to return stolen items organised
Hyderabad: In a first in the State, Rachakonda Police organised Property return mela in which the victims of thefts were handed over their lost property like bike, ornaments etc on Wednesday.
In the program held at Neredmet Commissionerate Office, Police Commissioner Mahesh M Bhagwat handed over the property worth Rs 41.15 lakh recovered in 23 cases to 28 victims.
The recovered property includes 120 tola gold ornaments worth Rs 36.15 lakh, 4 motorcycles worth Rs 2 lakh and 6 LED TVs worth Rs 3 lakh all worth Rs 41.15 lakh. Speaking on the occasion, the CP said that even after the crime detection and the arrest of the offender, when the recovered property is deposited in court, the complainants are not having real satisfaction as the property is not in their hands.
To instill confidence of victims of the crime in the criminal justice system for the first time they have organized a property return mela to handover property following due process of law. Recently in February 2019, CCS Rachakonda police had apprehended potential inter-state house burglary gang (Bharat Bansal and Mathura Prasad) and detected 21 cases in Hayathnagar, Vanasthalipuram, Balapur, LB Nagar, Saroornagar, Meerpet, Ghatkesar and Jawaharnagar police stations and recovered 94 tola gold ornaments all worth Rs 31.50 lakh and all the recovered property was deposited in the concerned courts among which the property belonging to 11 cases was released and being handed over to victims.
During January 2019 to till date, police apprehended 13 potential property offenders in different police station limits and detected 12 cases and recovered Rs 62.88 tola gold ornaments, 6 Led TVs and 4 bikes all worth Rs 23.86 lakh. Later all the recovered property was released from the courts and being handed over to the victims.
