Padma Rao said that the 650-mt long Lalapet RoB was built in 1990 but the bridge had become dangerous as bearings beneath the bridge got damaged. In 2014, GHMC officials sent proposals to the state municipal minister KT Rama Rao for repairing the bridge and the state government, after consulting engineering experts, sanctioned Rs 5.85 crore for repairs and renovation works, he said. Padma Rao said that the bridge was partially open to traffic even during the repair despite several hardships. With the completion of repair works, the bridge was thrown open for public use, he said. He instructed officials to get the bridge painted and beautify it with greenery on it.
