Update: 2019-12-06 23:54 IST

Godavarikhani: All India Youth Federation (AIYF) State vice-president Maddela Dinesh alleged that the sacred River Godavari, which has a great history, has been polluted with the release of various types of pollutants, chemicals and dumping of waste material.

It is to be noted that for the past few days, AIYF representatives along with the leaders of Communist Party of India (CPI) started a movement demanding the government to take steps for preventing the release of pollutants into River Godavari and to purify it.

In response to their agitations, Assistant scientist of Pollution Control Board Mahesh and Work Inspector Anjith Ali collected the water samples from the river to test it in Warangal Zonal Lab. Mahesh said that after testing the water only, they could tell the percentage of pollution of Godavari water and the details will be submitted to the government.

As the region is equipped with large number of industries, the pollutants that are released from these industries are directly adding with Godavari water and polluting the water. People are suffering from various kinds of health issues after drinking such kind of water, he informed.

AIYF State vice-president Dinesh demanded that the government must take immediate steps by establishing filtering units to save the lives of the people. Many people are of a strong belief that Godavari is sacred river and taking a holy dip in the river will drive away all their sins and would enable them long and prosperous life. But after taking a dip in Godavari water, people are getting various kinds of diseases like typhoid, cholera and skin infections due to water pollution.

Soon, Sammakka and Sarakka Jatara, considered as a mini Medaram Jatara, will be conducted in Medaram, which is present in Godavarikhani. To save the lives of people, who flock the Jatara, the government must respond immediately and must take steps to prevent pollution of water by stopping the release of pollutants into Godavari river, he added.

AIYF members T Ramesh, Kumar, V Vijaya, G Srikanth, V Balaram, E Ramachandram, M Srinivas, J Mallesh, Chaitanya and Madhu were present along with others.
