Vijayawada: A victim of call money racket on Monday lodged a complaint with Ajit Singh Nagar police alleging that the money-lender had threatened him of dire consequences if he failed to repay Rs 20 lakh.

According to Ajit Singh Nagar police, a couple K Israel and Sowsalya, living in Shantinagar under Ajit Singh Nagar police station limits had taken loan of Rs 5 lakh from financier S Gopala Krisha Murthy in 2009 to meet domestic needs and they paid interest for some years and later stopped due to financial constraints.

In the meantime, the interest increased to Rs 15 lakh and the total amounted to Rs 20 lakh. The victim alleged the financier had taken blank cheques and allegedly threatened the couple of dire consequences if they failed to repay the amount in bank.

Panicked with the threats, Israel suffered chest pain on Sunday and he was immediately shifted to a private hospital. Sowsalya lodged a complaint with Singh Nagar police in this connection on Monday.

As the call money harassment news came to light, ADCP Nawab Jaan visited Ajit Singh Nagar police station to enquire about the case. Sowsalya told media that she lodged a complaint at the commissionerate office on July 6 but there was no response from them. She sought police protection from the money-lender. Following a complaint, the Ajit Singh Nagar police arrested the accused.
