Chittoor: Former minister and TDP senior leader N Amaranath Reddy said that the Governor should take immediate steps for reappointing N Ramesh Kumar as State Election Commissioner.

Speaking to media here on Saturday, he said as per the directions of the Supreme Court, the Governor should take immediate steps for reappointing N Ramesh Kumar as State Election Commissioner.

He said that YSRCP functionaries have highly misused the power in the ZPTC elections and restricted the TDP candidates from filing nominations for ZPTC and MPTC posts. "In case of Chittoor district, out of 65 ZPTCs, the YSRCP captured 30 ZPTCs unanimously.

Likewise, in MPTC elections, out of 858 seats, 433 seats were declared unanimous in favour of YSRCP. This situation is never witnessed in the history of Panchayatraj elections where 50 per cent of the seats were declared unanimous," he stated.

With regard to the ZPTCs and MPTCs of Punganur, Srikalahasti and Thamballapalli Assembly Constituencies, YSRCP has managed to win all the seats unanimously by way of terrorising the TDP contesting candidates at the time of filing nominations, he regretted.

He demanded the SEC to cancel the local body polls immediately and conduct elections afresh.
