TDP opposes replacing old NTR statue in Chittoor

Chittoor: It was planned to erect statues of various leaders in the newly developed Statue Island in the city. The Statue Island has been developed near Gandhi statue due to initiative taken up by former MLA D A Satya Prabha. She contributed the funds for constructing the Statue Island with the support from Municipal Corporation.

Old NTR statue was removed from the site on Wednesday night and was shifted to TDP office. In that place a new statue of NTR was erected at the Statue Island. The other statues of Jyotiraophule, Jagajjivan Ram, Ambedkar, Kattamanchi Ramalinga Reddy, Vivekananda, Y S Rajasekhar Reddy , and others will be shifted shortly to the Statue Island in due course. The TDP made efforts to oppose the shifting of NTR statue from PCR circle without its notice

Speaking to The Hans India here on Thursday, District TDP president P Nani decried that the authorities have forcibly removed the old NTR statue and erected a new one in the statue island. ``We are going to stage protest in this regard " he added.

Meanwhile District TDP leaders N Amaranath Reddy, former minister , B N Rajasimhulu, MLC, District TDP president P Nani and others submitted a memorandum to Collector N B Gupta on Thursday opposing shifting of NTR statue.

In response to the memorandum of TDP leaders, the newly installed NTR statue at the Statue Island was removed according to official information. It may be recalled here that without the permission of the District Collector, the authorities have erected the NTR statue at the said island removing the old NTR statue.
