Demand for education, marriage rotis this time in Nellore
Nellore: Rotis are famous in the ongoing festival which plays a crucial role and a main attraction of the event. People witness the event only for their wishes and exchange them in a knee-deep water of the Swarnala Tank.
Roti Festival is celebrated as a thanksgiving when people thank the martyrs for their sacrifices. The main event of this festival is the exchanging rotis with each other and make a wish.
It is famous festival and many people across South Indian states visit on the occasion and the tradition of exchanging rotis is also continuing for many decades. But, this time, only few rotis such as education and marriage are having demand and there has been a low response for foreign tour and wealth rotis.
Normally, rotis are unlimited like human wishes and they represent the trend of contemporary society. Devotees exchange education, marriage, children, health, wealth, housing, foreign tour, software and government employment roties.
Varieties of rotis have been increasing due to unending wishes of the human beings and they were being displayed at the ghat allocated for each roti for the exchange process. People visit the designated ghat and wait for the roti. They accept a roti and consume it according to its nature. If the people show interest in children, both wife and husband should consume the roti and do not share with any others.
Others are shared among family members. People from all religions participate in the event and accept rotis. After their wish is fulfilled, they again visit the Dargah during the festival and offer the roti to some others, who require it. This is the process how a roti is being exchanged for fulfilling wishes.
It is a great attraction across the State and people start visiting the Dargah much before commencement of the festival and also visit even after the festival. Devotees, who visit the district for participating in the roti festival, also visit Kasumuru and AS Pet Dargahs at the same time. So, as soon as the festival starts these two Dargahs also witness huge crowds.
"This time there has been great demand for education, marriage and children rotis. Majority people have not preferred wealth, foreign visit or employment rotis. At the end of the festival, some demand increased for health roti," said SK Karimullah, who runs a shop on the Dargah premises. No other new rotis have been added this year including political ones.
