District Collector flags off Marathon Health Run in Vijayawada

Vijayawada: Children, youth, home makers, women, senior citizens and others from various places participated in the Marathon Health Run- 2019 in Vijayawada on Sunday with great enthusiasm.

The run was flagged off by Collector Mohammad Imtiaz at the D Address Mall. The run was organised by Vijayawada Runners and Sri Ram City under three categories, viz, 5K, 10K and 21K. The organisers stood on either side of the road and encouraged the participants on the occasion.

Dr Jaganmohan Reddy from Hyderabad won the 21K running race in 1 hour 26 minutes.

Speaking on the occasion, the District Collector appreciated the organiser T Manideepak for conducting the marathon to transform the capital city as healthy Amaravati.

Creating awareness with a slogan 'Health for All' was a good initiative, he said and added that by organising these events, they would create awareness on the importance of walking, jogging and exercise for good health. Maintaining good health has become essential nowadays as people were leading the fast paced stressful lives, he added. As such, people have to be fit mentally and physically.

He said that creating health conscious among the people is very important. Eating balanced food will keep one fit and healthy, he added. CID DIG NV Trivikram Varma, Vijayawada Runners chairman T Mani Deepak, AWARA founder Prof Ajay Katragadda also spoke on the occasion.

All the participants were given medals and participation certificates. Sri Ram City executive director V Niranjan Rao, organizing committee members Sundar, Ravi Rajesh Babu, T Basaveswara Rao, R Ramu and others were present.
