Vijayawada: City Police Commissioner Ch Dwaraka Tirumala Rao has said that everyone should be mentally and physically strong for a better living. He participated in Fit India cycle rally to mark the National Sports Day which started from the District Collector's camp office to Tuimmalapalli Kalakshetram here on Thursday.

Speaking on the occasion, the Police Commissioner said that everyone should do exercise and yoga regularly as a part of life to stay fit and healthy. To create awareness about a healthy lifestyle, Prime Minister Narendra Modi called for the 'Fit India' programme.

He said that physical exercise was essential for everyone in their daily routine to stay healthy. Speaking on the occasion, District Collector Mohammad Imtiaz said that to mark the birthday of famous hockey player Major Dhyan Chand Singh, National Sports Day was being celebrated.

He said that awareness should be created on sports among youth so that they could lead a healthy lifestyle. He said that they would organise week-long sports and the winners would be given prizes.

SAAP Managing Director K Bhaskar, Technical Education Commissioner Babu A, Joint Collector K Madhavi Latha, VMC Commissioner Prasanna Venkatesh and others participated in the programme.
