Kargil martyrs remembered in Anantapur

Anantapur: District Collector S Sathyanarayana has advised the youth to learn the spirit of sacrifice and courage from the jawans and emulate selflessness from the Kargil soldiers, who fought with chivalry and kept the Indian flag flying high on the war frontiers.

Participating in the 'Kargil Vijay Diwas' programme organised in commemoration of the 1999 Kargil War as chief guest at the local Government Arts College here on Friday, Sathyanarayana said that the youth and students should draw inspiration from the Jawans, who fought valiantly while some laid their lives for the country.

The Collector said that every year July 26 is observed as a commemoration day for Kargil Heroes to inspire the youth of the country for rendering selfless service to the society. Indian Jawans fought in the Kargil war and kept at bay Pakistan soldiers and checked their intrusion into Indian borders.

The people of the country owe their freedom and democracy to the valiant sacrifices of the Indian soldiers. The day is celebrated in the country to infuse a sense of patriotism and to remind people that someone and somewhere had paid the price for a free and prosperous India. A huge rally was organised to mark the occasion.

Hundreds of youth marched through the main fares of the city shouting slogans glorifying the sacrifices of the Jawans. Ex-servicemen Association members Capt Sekhanna, Abdul Khader and Anjeneyulu and District Sainik Welfare Officer Chandrasekhar and former president of the ex-servicemen Association V K Ranga Reddy also participated.

Kurnool: On the occasion of Vijay Diwas, NCC Cadets and army soldiers organised a rally from C Camp to the Collectorate and back to C Camp. NCC Officer Nageshwara Rao said that Vijay Diwas is being celebrated on July 26 every year remembering the sacrifices of the brave soldiers. As many as 600 NCC Cadets took part in the rally.
