Koyambedu links cause panic in Chittoor district

Tirupati: The impact of huge outbreak of Covid-19 cases at Koyambedu market in Chennai continues to be severe on Chittoor district with everyday new cases have been coming out. During the last 24 hours, 10 new cases were reported according to the official bulletin which takes the district tally to 121. It is expected that the 20 more cases may be added by Tuesday.

Being the border district of Tamil Nadu and having close proximity to Koyambedu market, the officials have been worrying more as the number of Covid positive cases may skyrocket once all the direct contacts and their primary and secondary contacts are tested for Covid.

The chain will go further with the reporting of new cases as their contacts have to be traced again. It has become a major headache for the official machinery more than Tabligi Jamaat cases.Several farmers and workers from the district, particularly from border villages, will visit Koyambedu market to sell their fruits and vegetables.

Some other traders will buy vegetables and fruits from there to sell in the district. The situation has been causing panic among the people also as it would be difficult to know who have links with Koyambedu and with whom they might have had transactions in various markets.

According to DM & HO Dr M Penchalaiah, about 900 tests were conducted on Sunday itself and several reports are yet to come. More than 1,000 samples are to be collected and tested and the figure may go up with new contacts are found from time to time, he said and added the whole process may take another 2-3 days.
