Tirupati: Koyambedu linked Covid cases go unabated

Tirupati: The Covid-19 positive cases in Chittoor district having Koyambedu market link have been going unabated every day. On Saturday, eight new cases with Koyambedu links have been reported taking the district tally to 173 with the number of active cases reaching 95. Seventy-eight people were discharged so far.

There are 11 more positive cases in the district who are Ajmer returnees though their number is being shown separately under Rajasthan quota in the official bulletin. Among the eight new cases, two cases each were reported in Madanapalli and Varadaiahpalem while Nagalapuram, Punganur, V Kota and Pichatur got one case each.

Punganur reported its first case now, which has successfully managed without a case all these days. Madanapalle in-charge sub- collector Prudhvi Tej visited Mittapalli and Reddeppa Naidu colonies in the town on Saturday and announced that the areas will go into Red Zone.

He directed the tahsildar to see that all essential commodities are being door delivered through volunteers. People should not come out of their houses and should not allow any others into the area.

He said that efforts were on to find out the primary and secondary contacts of the two persons who are tested positive for Covid. So far 18 primary contacts and 24 secondary contacts of the persons belongs to Mittapalli were identified and their swabs are being collected at the Ambulance in the village itself.

Similarly another six primary and 11 secondary contacts of another positive case belongs to Reddeppa Naidu colony were identified. Meanwhile, one Covid patient from Srikalahasti was discharged from Ruia Hospital on Saturday. Under the new discharge guidelines, he has been discharged after 10 days after conducting tests on him.

Ruia Hospital superintendent Dr T Bharati and Covid-19 special officer Dr S Subba Rao gave away discharge certificate to him. Hospital working committee chairman B Chandrasekhar was also present.
