Make the district plastic free, says District Collector

Vijayawada: District Collector Mohammad Imtiaz said he wished to see the district free from plastic and the district administration was vigorously canvassing to discourage the use of carry bags and disposable items. He along with other officials conducted a surprise check the Rythu Bazaar at Swarajya Maidan on Sunday to observe the ban on sale of plastic carry bags in Rytu bazaars.

The District Collector interacted with the consumers at the Rythu Bazaar and explained the importance of banning the usage of plastic and polythene carry bags. He also stated that from now on, the officials would conduct surprise checks at regular intervals and see that the problem is completely solved. The district administration distributed cloth bags for free to the customers who are carrying plastic bags.

He stated that from May 20 onwards, the district administration banned the sale of plastic and polythene carry bags in all 23 Rytu Bazaars in the district. The officials also pulled up some shop owners for selling carry bags which were not having enough quality and asked the customers to use cloth bags for protect the environment.
