MCT begins selection of volunteers

Tirupati: The Municipal Corporation of Tirupati (MCT) began the process of selecting volunteers here on Thursday. As per the State government guidelines, the MCT has to conduct interviews for 1,591 candidates in 10 days. On an average, civic officials have to conduct interviews to 140 candidates every day.

The interviews for selecting volunteers will complete on July 22. The civic body made elaborate arrangements for selection of volunteers. In urban local bodies, each volunteer will be in-charge for 50 houses and in posh localities, the government will appoint one volunteer for every 70 to 100 houses.

To select the volunteers, MCT Commissioner PS Girisha has formed 5 panels. Deputy Commissioner MVD Phani Ram, engineers B Chandrashekar and Rahamat Jani, Veterinary Officer A Ravikanth and Regional Fire Officer Gnana Sundaram are heading the selection teams.

According to official sources, selection panel has conducted interviews to 60 candidates on Thursday. The panels are assessing leadership qualities and communication skills of candidates in interviews.

They also testing the knowledge of candidates on welfare schemes being implemented by State and Central governments. Speaking to The Hans India, PS Girisha said that they are conducting interviews in a transparent manner without giving scope for allegations. Selection would be purely on the basis of merit as per the government guidelines, he stated.
